Resilient Parenting for Bereaved Families
Resilient Parenting for Bereaved Families is a 10-session, research-based program for caregivers raising children after the death of a parent or central caregiver. The program teaches practical parenting tools in a warm, supportive environment and is grounded in research showing that caregiving has a powerful role in helping bereaved children adapt and cope.Â
Through this work, caregivers learn tools to strengthen family bonds, support their children’s grief, and care for themselves while navigating loss. This offering is facilitated by Dr. Mari Marquez as part of the broader Growth After Loss ecosystem.Â
Who it is for
This program is for parents and other caregivers of children who have experienced the death of a parent or central caregiver. It is generally best for families who are at least six months beyond the loss and who are looking for structured, research-informed support in a group setting.Â
Caregivers may join through a sponsoring organization or participate directly, depending on cohort availability.Â
Â
Ways to participate
Through a sponsoring organization
Organizations, bereavement centers, hospices, schools, and employers may sponsor families so caregivers can participate in a Resilient Parenting cohort with Dr. Mari Marquez. Sponsored caregivers also receive six months of Growth After Loss membership to support daily life after the cohort through workshops, short videos, and live support.Â
As an individual caregiver
Not every caregiver comes through an organization. Individual caregivers may also join a scheduled cohort directly and may choose to continue support through Growth After Loss after the program.Â
Payment and contracting
Resilient Parenting for Bereaved Families is a free, research-based program. The underlying curriculum and parenting tools are not billed to families or organizations.Â
Collaboration fees apply to Dr. Marquez’s time and expertise in facilitating, coordinating, and customizing the work for each group. Fees are discussed in advance and invoiced through Growth After Loss.
For individual caregivers, participation takes place through scheduled cohorts. The program content itself is free, and any facilitation fee reflects Dr. Marquez’s time leading the group and providing structured support.
For organizations and bereavement centers, sponsorship agreements may include facilitation, customization, pre- and post-assessment, and related consultation or training. Organizational fees reflect the number of participating families, cohort format, and any additional support requested.
Assessments and program support
To support program reflection and efficacy, participating caregivers may be invited to complete a brief pre-program and post-program assessment. These assessments help track caregiver experience, perceived usefulness, and overall program impact over the course of the cohort.Â
